Becoming a successful English language educator requires not only pedagogical knowledge of how to teach the language, but also awareness of modern trends in instructional practices; understanding of the sociological, economic and political context in which instruction takes place; and ongoing attention to professional development.
This book is designed to support undergraduate and graduate students in English language teaching, as well as classroom teachers, in exploring these ideas and reflecting on the ways they may inform their practice (both present and future). In this process, readers are encouraged to examine their roles as language educators and how the issues raised in this book impact their indentities as teaching professionals.
